The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic,
mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service
organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members -- men and
women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide.
The Erwin Scholarship Fund has been established by Post 46 to provide scholarships to students enrolled at the University of Michigan who are either:
a) Students enrolled in an ROTC program administered by the U of M; or
b) Student veterans who have served in the U.S. military for 2 or more years; or
c) Students who are sons and daughters of U.S. military service personnel.
The scholarship fund is expected to award scholarships beginning in the school year 2009-2010. The scholarship fund has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as being qualified as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations to the fund are welcome and can be addressed to:
